A New Rule

July 1, 2008 · No Comments

If you are talking loudly on your cellphone (on speaker phone no less) in Subway, you should not be allowed to obnoxiously complain about noise when the manager and a fellow employee are having a bit of fun and joking loudly.

I swear, for all the complaining people do about the lack of good customer service these days, I would say the lack of good customers is a lot worse.

Scenes from the Metro-North Railroad

June 25, 2008 · 1 Comment

On the train back from the Pearl Jam concert at MSG (woooo!), I had the pleasure of overhearing a very loud conversation between two long lost friends, a male and female, maybe early to mid-20s. Actually it wasn’t so much a conversation as it was the guy trying his damnedest to impress her with how he’s spent his time since he last saw her. Bless her heart for being so patient and polite with him.

Guy: The funny thing is I used to be, like, the quintessential jock in high school, but now I play guitar.
Girl: Oh, cool.
Guy: Yeah, I realized I was really good at air guitar so I decided to try the real thing.

Guy: I’ve been listening to these history books on my iPod from like the University of Michigan.

Girl: I can never really sleep on the train.
Guy: Me neither. I get up really early in the morning, and as soon as I get out of bed I’m like “All right, let’s go! I’m ready to go!” I get on the train and listen to my history books. I’ve learned a lot!

Guy: Now I listen to all my books on my iPod. The first one I got was Stephen Colbert’s book about America. That shit is hilarious. I recommended it to all my friends. All my friends on Facebook. And all my roommates on Facebook.

A few school chums and I write another blog where we post an idea a day. It keeps us sharp. Or it just shows the world how dumb we are.

I Want To Go Back

June 12, 2008 · 2 Comments

Mercer Consulting released their annual list of the world’s best cities to live. I have visited five of the top 10 two years ago while in Europe. Technically I have been to six of those cities, but I was only in airport at Frankfurt so it doesn’t count.

The Top 10:
1. Zurich, Switzerland
2 (tie). Vienna, Austria
2 (tie). Geneva, Switzerland
4. Vancouver, Canada
5. Auckland, New Zealand
6. Dusseldorf, Germany
7 (tie). Munich, Germany
7 (tie). Frankfurt, Germany*
9. Bern, Switzerland
10. Sydney, Australia

Some people build model cars. Others restore old cars. Does anyone ever restore old, model cars?

An Important Matter That Needs To Be Addressed

June 8, 2008 · 7 Comments

“Baby Hold On” is a better Eddie Money song than “Take Me Home Tonight.” More people need to realize this.

That is all. Thank you.

How Far We Have Fallen Part 4

I’m having a hard time deciding if I want the shirt that says “Irked neighbor saws off left half of tree” or “Tree halved to satisfy irked neighbor.”

My Portfolio (Updated June 4, 2008)

May 19, 2008 · No Comments

Hello. Perhaps you are reading this because you have one of my business cards. Or you searched for me on Google. Or, least likely, you regularly read my blog. In any event, here is a link to download my brand planning portfolio.

What is contained in this book is a small sample of some of my favorite work I did during my two years at the VCU Brandcenter. If you have questions, comments, or any feedback, please shoot me an email, and I will gladly chat with you.

I am currently “on the market” so if you feel I would be a great fit for your agency, I would love to hear from you! Additional work samples and information can be sent upon request.

Thanks,
Dave

A morbid ad, with increased morbidness given its placement.
