You’d be amazed/disgusted at what people search to come across my site. I guess I am partially to blame for that.

One of the most rewarding aspects of going to the VCU Brandcenter is we get to work on projects for real clients, and sometimes we work with non-profit organizations. On March 22, 2007, thousands of Manhattan restaurant-goers did something remarkable; they donated $1 for the tap water they normally enjoy for free. This was the Tap Project, a joint effort between UNICEF and the ad agency droga5. The project raised $100,000 in one day and $5.5 million overall. The money was used to provide clean drinking water to children in areas of the world without access to it. This year, Tap Project expands nationally and Richmond is one of 16 cities participating.
Upon returning from winter break, Rick Boyko, our teacher and managing director of Brandcenter, informed us we had the opportunity to establish the Richmond Tap Project. It was an opportunity we willingly and gladly accepted. The challenge: recruit local Richmond restaurants to participate in the project, and communicate to the public how the Richmond Tap Project works. It’s very simple. Order tap water during the week of March 16-22, World Water Week, and add just $1 to your bill for that water. It’s important to remember donations are voluntary, you don’t have to do it. But that $1 is enough to provide one day of clean drinking water to 40 children, or 40 days of water to one child. It’s a small commitment we hope will have big rewards. In other words, we hope to create a “ripple effect” of positive change. And it all starts by something most people do normally, order water at your favorite local Richmond restaurant.
We have already began our restaurant recruitment, and so far local favorites such as Nacho Mama’s, Cha Cha’s, Weezie’s Kitchen, Europa, Delux, Michelle’s at Hanover Tavern, and Ipanema Grill have graciously decided to participate. Hopefully hundreds more follow suit so we can reach our goal of $100,000.

Like my grandparents, I make it a point to watch Wheel of Fortune at 7pm and Jeopardy! at 7:30pm. I love Jeopardy! in particular. One day I would love to be a contestant on the show, but in the meantime I have been keeping track of my scores to see how well I would do if I were actually on the show. In an effort to increase my nerdiness, I have been blogging the results. Check out the Jeopardy! Project where you can download a scorecard and play along. Post your scores in the comments if you wish.
